Membership

Our monthly membership costs £39 per month and is charged each month of the year until you wish to cancel. You must pay one full month in advance, so your first payment will always be higher and will be worked out based on how many lessons are in the month of your joining.

For example, if you signed up to start in September, you would pay for September and October. Then, on 1st October, you would pay for November and so on moving forward.

Your first payment will be collected a few days after you join and thereafter on the 1st of each month. GoCardless will send you an email reminder each month to prompt you that they will collect payment on the 1st.

Payments are spread over 12 months which means when you cancel your direct debit you still have a month of swimming paid for, which allows a couple of weeks for us to fill your place. This scheme covers the cost of 40 lessons per academic year which equates to £11.70 per lesson. Please note the following information regarding our scheme:

  • Your booking is not confirmed until you have joined the membership scheme.
  • If your direct debit fails at any time, which can often happen, it is your responsibility to contact us and rectify the problem, otherwise, we will presume you no longer wish to return, and we will cancel your membership.
  • If you cancel your direct debit and don’t notify us, again we will presume you no longer require your place, and we will cancel your membership with no lessons owed. We also incur failed collection fees and you will forfeit any refunds that may be due back to you. Please inform us by email if you wish to cancel your membership and we will process it without passing on any costs to you.

Attendance Monitoring

We have an online register system which the teachers update after each session. Please don’t report ad hoc absences as they are recorded by the teachers and accessed by head office. We can’t utilise the space for an ad hoc absence, so the online register records are adequate for what our management/admin team require.

If your child is going to be absent for more than 2 consecutive weeks for ongoing illness please call us or email info@swimfunnortheast.co.uk so we can notify the relevant teacher. We will also need to plan a programme for when you return in order for your little swimmer to catch up.

Catch-Up Policy

Our catch-up offer is a benefit which we offer to help you make the most out of your membership fee and attend as many lessons as possible. Catch-ups should be used for occasional and unavoidable absences only, or any cancellations from Swimfun. They must be booked and used within the month of the absence.

If the absence is just before a school holiday break they will be carried over into the next term. If your child is going to have a long-term absence, then please contact us to discuss and plan a return which will include a catch-up programme to progress skill development and general swimming time that they will have missed.

Term Dates 2024-25

Please note it is your responsibility to keep a note of our term dates and to ensure that sessions are running.

On the rare occasion that we have a cancellation, we will update our Facebook page and send a group email as soon as we receive the information from the pool.

Due to the way the school terms fall, sometimes the academic year does not have 40 weeks of a particular day. If this is the case you can book a catch-up lesson to ensure you access all lessons you are paying for. The same applies with bank holidays that fall on teaching weeks, i.e. not in a school holiday when all swimming lessons don’t run.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the cancellation policy?

Please note we require 1 month’s notice for cancellations.

If you wish to cancel your membership we will process it without passing on any costs to you. Please email accounts@swimfunnortheast.co.uk. Because you pay a month in advance when you join us, when you cancel you still have a month left to swim. If you cancel your direct debit and don’t notify us, we will presume you no longer require your place, and we will cancel your membership with no lessons owed as we also incur failed collection fees.

What happens if I miss a session throughout the term?

We are under no obligation to refund fees for reasons such as illness, holidays, etc. What we do offer, however, is the option to attend a catch-up lesson on a different day/time to make up for any missed sessions where we will try our best to accommodate you. Catch-ups must be booked over the telephone due to availability changing constantly.

The catch-up line is open 12 – 3pm, Monday to Friday, 0191 491 3449, option 1.

What happens if Swimfun cancel a session throughout the term?

Occasionally we may need to cancel a session due to pool maintenance issues etc. We will notify you by email and update our Facebook page so please check before you set off for swimming. Sometimes last-minute cancellations occur if there is, for example, a soiling of the pool. This may limit the time for office staff to write to you, but we can’t allow swimming in a pool that is deemed unsafe until it is chemically treated.

For any cancellations, please book a catch-up lesson. Please note that we do not offer refunds for cancelled sessions as we offer catch-up lessons instead.

What age can my baby start swimming lessons?

NHS guidelines say babies can swim before they are vaccinated. Babies can swim from only a few days old but please be mindful of the pool temperature. Swim England guidance advises that pools should be heated to at least 32⁰ for children 0-3 months old, 30⁰ for children 3-12 months, up to a maximum of 35⁰.

Please note that this is only guidance and you can decide what temperature to swim with your little one. Neoprene suits are beneficial for little ones who feel the cold.

What type of swim nappy do babies and toddlers wear for swimming lessons?

You can purchase disposable swim nappies from most supermarkets. There is no need to buy expensive swim nappies or suits as little ones grow out of them quickly.

Any swimsuit you can buy from supermarkets will be appropriate.

Should I feed my child before swimming?

We recommend that you do not allow your little one any food prior to the lesson, and time should be allowed for any meals/snacks to be well-digested to avoid any unpleasant sickness in the pool. Pools have to be closed and treated after vomiting, so we appreciate your cooperation with this. Little ones will most likely be hungry after their swim so a snack will come in handy for when they leave the changing area.

Please note no food or drinks are allowed in the pool or changing areas.

What time should we arrive to swimming lessons?

Our lessons start at the times given and last 30 minutes, so please arrive with enough time to get your little ones changed and to the pool for the start of the lesson.

Can my child wear goggles?

We strongly advise goggles for children as soon as they are old enough to wear them as it helps to learn effective aquatic breathing. Some children get used to goggles during our Swimtoddler programme and we strongly encourage them from Stage 1 and above.

Do I need to bring any equipment to lessons?

We provide all equipment with the exception of swimming goggles and nose clips.
