The Benefits of Swimming

Did you know that swimming is excellent for developing a wide range of skills, in addition to being a vital life skill?

Swimming benefits general physical fitness, particularly muscle tone, breath control and core body strength. In addition to this it improves flexibility and enhances coordination and motor skills so is a particularly great choice of activity for children and adults with coordination and mobility problems.

Scientific research confirms that swimming also improves our mental health. Endorphins are released in our bodies which make us feel good and the extra blood and oxygen that is created while swimming helps us to be alert and more focused. Swimming is also relaxing and can be described as ‘meditative’ and promotes good sleep.

The social aspect of swimming in groups also helps to develop confidence and social skills.
